Sissako, cineasta mauritanês radicado na França, escreve ao pai: "...uma mudança significativa aconteceu e me faz voltar: o desejo de filmar a vida em Sokolo, a vida na terra, e também o desejo de sair daqui..." No povoado, ele encontra-se com Nana, que também está em visita, e algo impalpável e ardente se desenvolve entre eles, enquanto a vida continua no povoado. / Quinzena dos Realizadores Festival de Cannes 1998 It’s the Last Day of the Millenium. Sissako, a Mauritanian filmmaker living in France, writes to his father "...something significant has happened and makes me want to return: The desire to film life in Sokolo, life in the country and the desire to leave here...". ABDERRAHMANE SISSAKO Nasceu na Mauritânia, estudou cinema no Instituto de Cinema de Moscou e vive na França. Sua perspectiva associa ficção ao documentário e o político ao poético. A África está no cerne de sua obra, embora o objeto real de seus filmes seja o exílio, brilhantemente representado em October, premiado em inúmeros festivais. Dirigiu ainda Sabrya e Rostov-Luanda, exibido neste Festival. Born in Mauritania in 1961, he studied filmmaking at the Moscow Filmmakers Institute and currently lives in France. His perspective joins fiction to documentary and politics to poetry. Africa is the centerpeice of his work, though the real object of his films is exile, wonderfully expressed in October, a prize-winner at many festivals. He has also directed Sabrya and Rostov-Luanda, shown at this Festival.
